THE SCIENCE OF COBBLE COVERAGE
Calculating large stones like Black Granite Cobble or Colorado River Rock is different from standard gravel. Because these rocks are larger (2" to 8"), they don't fill every gap like sand does. We calculate your needs based on surface coverage per ton to ensure you get a full, professional look without seeing the weed fabric underneath.
Mind the Depth

If you are using 4-8" Cobble, a 3" depth won't cut it. Your edging needs to be high enough to contain the stones, and your layer should be at least as thick as the largest rock.

We include a 5% margin because every rock is unique. In a single ton, you might get fewer large stones or more small ones; our calculation ensures you have enough to finish the perimeter perfectly.
The "Safety Buffer"
Best Uses

Use 2-4" Cobble for dry creek beds and 4-8" stones as dramatic accents or erosion control on slopes.
